"We had such a great experience with Foundation Recovery Systems and I highly recommend them! Communication was great all around. The salesman Eric S was super helpful! He explained what another contractor did wrong and helped me with how to respond to that contractor. He took texts and answered questions prior to us signing the contract, and then between signing and install. Then the crew who did the install was fantastic too! Foreman Greg H and his crew worked so hard and fast! They did a helpful walk through before the job began and answered questions. On the second day of install was a snowstorm and they came anyways to finish the job, even though they could have delayed. One of the guys was manually mixing cement in 0 degree temps! They laid the cement very nicely, much smoother than the contractor we had before. And I was especially impressed that the cleaned up so well, better than how they found it (with the mess from the earlier contractor)."

Common Causes of your Crawl Space Problems in Murphysboro

Noticing dampness or a musty smell in your basement or crawl space? Many homes in this area face similar challenges due to the interaction between local soil and moisture levels. In Murphysboro, the clay-rich soil can expand and contract significantly with changes in moisture content. This activity is common in regions where seasonal rainfall and varying temperatures contribute to freeze-thaw cycles. Such conditions can lead to soil movement, often causing foundations to settle unevenly over time. When coupled with poor drainage patterns in some neighborhoods, these factors can result in the accumulation of moisture in your crawl space or basement, setting the stage for potential structural issues.

Excess moisture in these below-grade spaces not only harms your foundation but can also encourage mold growth and lead to wood rot. Homes in this region commonly exhibit signs like cracks in foundation walls, uneven floors, and doors that stick, which indicate stress on the structural components. Addressing these warning signs promptly is crucial as early detection and preventive measures, like crawl space encapsulation, can effectively mitigate future damage. Taking action to control moisture levels and ensure proper drainage around your home helps protect its structural integrity and maintain a healthier living environment.

FAQs

Encapsulation systems often come with warranties that cover materials and workmanship, ensuring long-term protection against moisture intrusion and maintaining a sealed crawl space. The specifics of the warranty can vary significantly depending on the contractor and materials used. It's important to discuss warranty details with your contractor to understand what is and isn't covered. For peace of mind, verify the terms align with your needs before proceeding with installation.

Yes, encapsulating your crawl space can increase your home's resale value by improving energy efficiency, moisture control, and overall structural integrity. An encapsulation system addresses moisture problems, preventing mold and enhancing air sealing, which are appealing to potential homebuyers. The added benefits of reduced humidity and potential for lower utility bills can also contribute to higher market appeal. If selling your home is a consideration, this investment can be attractive to buyers.

Encapsulation systems for homes with pier and beam foundations involve sealing the crawl space to control moisture and improve energy efficiency. This process includes installing a vapor barrier, clean space liner, and potentially a dehumidifier to prevent moisture intrusion and enhance mold prevention. Encapsulation benefits pier and beam structures by reducing the risk of dampness, which can lead to rotted wood or sagging floors. It's a viable option for safeguarding your home's structural integrity.

While a rarely wet crawl space might not seem at risk, encapsulation still offers moisture control and mold prevention benefits. Sealing the area enhances air sealing and energy efficiency while protecting against unexpected moisture intrusion. A clean and sealed crawl space can also prevent future issues like pest infestation or rotted wood. If in doubt, consult with a professional to evaluate your specific situation.

Yes, moisture in the crawl space can attract pests or rodents by creating a damp and hospitable environment. Excess humidity not only encourages pest infestation but also supports mold growth, posing health risks. Proper encapsulation with a vapor barrier and dehumidifier can mitigate these risks by maintaining a controlled, dry environment. Keeping your crawl space dry is crucial to avoid these problems.
