There are some qualities that make a sump pump unqualified to install in a home. These qualities can include: 

Poor Reliability

There is a significant amount of overlap between the “reliability” and “lifespan” categories by which Foundation Recovery Systems judges its potential installations. However, where reliability reflects on a system’s ability to function under pressure, lifespan addresses the system’s make. All sump pumps recommended by Foundation Recovery Systems must survive for more than a year at least to receive a recommendation. Any that fail sooner than that, either due to shoddy make or some other defect, will be noted at a homeowner’s request but not recommended. 

Such is also the case for sump pumps that seem to negatively impact a person’s overall quality of life. Noisy sump pumps, for example, may be effective and may live for a good long while, but they can be irritating to listen to as they work.
