Is Efflorescence a Major Problem? 

Efflorescence isn’t a problem in and of itself. While your basement walls may look bad, efflorescence won’t harm you or your family. In contrast to mold, it doesn’t produce an unpleasant odor and isn’t a living organism. Efflorescence, on the other hand, is a huge warning sign of a serious moisture issue in your basement, one that involves water penetration and leaks.
