What are the Solutions for Concrete Cracks?

If cracked concrete walls and floors are to blame for the humidity and dampness in your home, having them fixed is the best possible option. There are a number of solutions that can be deployed to repair cracked concrete surfaces, but they depend entirely on the surface in question and the cause of the damage.

Cracked Concrete Walls

If your walls are cracked and starting to show signs of instability, there are a number of potential solutions at your disposal. Of course, the precise solution that is best for your home depends on the nature and severity of the damage, as well as the actual root cause of the damage. Strong hydrostatic pressure, for example, can result in bowing or leaning walls. Fixing this can have a single or two-part solution, depending on whether or not you also want to address drainage issues in your soil.

Walls that have not deviated far from their original placement may be treated with carbon fiber reinforcement straps, while walls that are more seriously damaged will need a more robust solution. For badly damaged walls, wall anchors or wall beams will be the most suitable solution. These tools are used to stabilize and even straighten damaged walls. Only once the walls have been prevented from further deviation can the cosmetic damage be covered and the cracks filled.

Cracked Concrete Floors and Driveways

The cause of sinking, sagging, or cracked concrete flooring tends to be damage to the property’s foundation and issues in the soil that supports it. This makes solving these particular issues very complicated and challenging. A good professional will be able to formulate a tailored solution that actually works for your home, however. First and foremost, they will take measures to find out what has caused the damage in the first place.

If the concrete surface is sinking the most likely causes are the formation of a void beneath the concrete, shifting soil, or improper weight distribution and load. If the concrete is heaving upwards then the most likely cause is frost heave and the expansion of reactive soil. If, however, the cracks are spreading with no signs of sinking or heaving it may be slightly harder to determine the cause of the cracks. In exterior surfaces, however, PolyRenewal foam is the most likely solution to cracking and movement in your concrete slabs, sidewalks, or driveway.
