IntelliBrace™ installation in Trenton, MO

Schedule Your Free Inspection

After rebuilding his house and adding a basement, the homeowner had found some bowing walls in the poured walkout basement. I Beams had been previously installed but was not performing the work they were designed to do. After providing the homeowner with an estimate and interior and exterior inspection, Foundation Recovery Systems found it best to remove the existing square tube bracing and install intellibraces with joist reinforcements. IntelliBraces were the best solution for this problem because they are designed to support basement walls and allow for potential straightening over time. The IntelliBraces have a zinc coating which allows for them to be resistant to corrosion, reduces abrasion and wear, and creates a non-toxic surface. The Joist Reinforcements added to the IntelliBraces will distribute the load evenly as not to damage the wood floor.

The IntelliBrace™ installation had five different steps. The first step was cutting of the wall braces: each IntelliBrace™ had to be cut to fit the appropriate height. Then FRS had to secure the floor joist: the top of each brace was attached to a floor joist near the mudsill at the top of the wall, specially designed brackets were bolted to the floor joist and contained a large-diameter bolt for adjusting and tightening after the installation which will not damage the floor framing. The third step was to fine-tune the IntelliBrace™: FRS used a level to fine-tune the position of each beam in preparation of attaching them, this works best when each I-Beam is perfectly vertical. Then we attached the braces to the floor: each beam was attached to the concrete foundation floor with a special, bolt-in-place bracket, the beams span the entire height of the foundation wall which makes them suitable for repairing walls that bow and buckle from the middle. And the final step was straightening the wall: the beams include a unique, patented adjustment mechanism that is unlike any other I-beam foundation wall repair system. The bracket that anchors each I-beam to a floor joist included a long bolt that can be tightened over time to advance the I-beam. This will force a bowed or buckle foundation wall back toward its original vertical and straight position. The Joist Reinforcements were added to this job due to excess moisture and humidity causing wood to rot, become moldy and weak. Since the girders and floor joists were weakened; they were unable to continue supporting the weight above, and the floor above the space became bouncy, soft and began to sag. Because of the installation of the IntelliBrace™, it will keep the wall from tipping/leaning in at the top, from sliding at the bottom, will stabilize the walls bowing at the center, and it did limited disturbance to the lawn and landscaping of the home. Learning that the IntelliBraces™ have a patented system that allows for tightening that can improve the condition of the wall over time, left the homeowner at ease believing that the wall would be straight in a matter of time.
