Retaining Wall Repair in Kansas City, MO

Challenge

The Swall residence is a ranch-style home with a full basement that was built in 1972. The homeowners purchased the home twenty years ago and the retaining wall next to their garage had only deflected 4”, but over the years due to the expansive clay soil adjacent to the retaining wall their problem got worse and worse. The wall ended up being pushed in 19” and the only thing keeping the wall from collapsing was a big timber that was wedged in front of the wall with a tractor.

Solution

Foundation Recovery Systems remedied the problem by installing four (4) Wall Anchors on the cracked and bowing Retaining wall. Earth anchors were embedded deep into the soil twelve feet out from the damaged wall. The earth anchors were then connected to steel wall plates on the face of the retaining wall by a 3/4” threaded rod. Once all of the anchors were installed, the wall anchor system was tightened, and the Retaining wall was pulled back to its original position, closing many of the cracks in the walls. The installation of the wall anchors enabled the homeowner to retain the value of the home and gave the peace of mind to know that this problem had been effectively remedied.
