Helical Piers installed at Toedtmann Funeral Home in Hermann, MO

Challenge

Toedtmann Funeral Home is located in Hermann, Missouri and was experiencing some settlement issues. On the corner of the building, the foundation was starting to settle and the owners were interested in piers. There are many signs that could potentially be caused by settlement including stair-step cracking, chimney seperation, seperation of a door or window from the framing, slab floor cracking and doors and windows out of square. The funeral home had cracks in one of their block walls inside of the garage and on the concrete slab leading up to the garage. There are three common changes in soil that can cause settlement: drying and shrinking of soil (drought, maturing trees), wetting and softening of soil (heavy rain and flood condtions and poor drainage), and compression of poorly compacted fill soil.

Solution

Foundation Recovery Systems installed four 3″ Helical Piers in front of the garage to permanently solve the foundation settlement problem. The soil was first removed where the helical piers were installed and then sections were advanced into the soil. When FRS reached the proper depth, the heavy-duty foundation brackets were positioned below the footing. The weight of the funeral home was then transferred through the helical piers to deep, competent soils. This then lifted it back to its original position. Now that the foundation issue was fixed, the funeral home owners can now not worry about any future settlement issues.
